    The University of Hawai‘i at Hilo (UH Hilo) is committed to being an Indigenous serving institution and fostering a Hawaiian place of learning as part of the University of Hawai‘i system. With an enrollment fluctuating between 3,000 and 4,000 students, UH Hilo offers approximately fifty (50) bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees and over 25 certificates in various fields of study.

    The College of Natural and Health Sciences (CNHS) at UH Hilo enrolls approximately 1,000 students, and offers undergraduate degrees and certificates from the following Departments: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology-Geophysics, Kinesiology and Exercise Science, Marine Science, Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy, and the School of Nursing. In addition, a master’s degree is offered through the Tropical Conservation Biology and environmental Science Graduate Program and a Doctor of Nursing Practice is offered by the School of Nursing. There are approximately ninety (90) faculty and staff members in the College, with additional lecturers and temporary employees hired throughout the year.

    The Department of Geology at the University of Hawaii at Hilo invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in any area of volcanology. The department is seeking applicants who will spearhead undergraduate instruction and research in volcanology.

    The successful candidate demonstrates a strong commitment to teaching and research at the undergraduate level, including working with students from a variety of backgrounds and those from traditionally underrepresented groups. The ideal applicant is a collaborative investigator who will develop an integrated field- and laboratory-based research program that involves undergraduate students. Further, the ideal applicant will take advantage of UH-Hilo’s location on Hawai`i Island and the department’s collaborative relationship with the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) and Center for the Study of Active Volcanoes (CSAV).

    The UH-Hilo geology department offers bachelor’s degrees in geology, with specialties in volcanology and environmental geology. The Department of Geology houses teaching laboratories in petrology and a geoarchaeology lab with a ThermoNoran Quant’X EDXRF; faculty also have access to facilities elsewhere on campus including an SEM and ICP housed in the UH-Hilo Analytical Laboratory, the UH-Hilo Spatial Data and Analysis Laboratory, and potentially facilities and equipment housed at HVO.
